Instructions for Reclassifying a Position
Effective June 1, 2026, the Compensation team will temporarily pause review of PDQs related
to reclassification requests for UCareer Phase I employees. Review of these requests is
expected to resume in August 2026. Reclassification requests for UCareer Phase II employees,
Clinical positions, and Academic positions will continue without interruption.
Submit a completed Position Description Questionnaire (PDQ)
that describes the overall scope and responsibilities of the work the employee is performing. In order
to be considered for reclassification, an employee must have been performing the new job duties for at
least 6 months and have completed their probationary period. The PDQ is designed to be completed
by any one of the following individuals:
- The employee being reclassified
- The department HR liaison
- The supervisor of the employee being reclassified
It is recommended for the initiator to complete the PDQ in one sitting. Please have all
documents ready before submission. Upon completion, the initiator will receive a copy of
the questionnaire. The supervisor, as indicated in the PDQ, will also receive a copy of the
completed PDQ for review and approval of the reclassification request.
Please note: When completing the PDQ, the initiator will be asked to attach the employee’s
current resume and the department organization chart indicating the reporting structure of the
position. The organization chart should include the name and job title of each incumbent in the
