Job Summary
Assists the Principal Investigator and/or Department Head in managing the engineering activities of a department. Provides leadership and management of personnel and resources for engineering projects. Provides counsel and support for the definition of engineering goals and objectives.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline or a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); six years experience in scientific research or engineering development; demonstrated communication skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. Experience should include project or organizational management.
Preference is given for an advanced degree in a scientific or engineering field and for publication of original research or project development in peer reviewed scientific journals, recognized professional society or engineering journals.

Essential Functions
Problem Solving
The incumbent makes hire/fire/salary recommendations involving employees under his/her direction. He/she independently forms procedures to be performed in creating and testing products/systems. This position may be given budgetary control regarding supplies and equipment, however, major purchases require approval from the supervisor. The incumbent may also represent the department in making contacts with other agencies which can potentially provide needed support for department operations. The Senior Engineer provides input in making department engineering changes or in the establishment of goals and objectives.
The incumbent is called upon to participate in an advisory capacity to solve organizational problems, staffing problems and issues surrounding the status of engineering projects.
Comments
The incumbent may be required to work long hours, including weekends, and travel throughout Utah and neighboring states.
