Job Summary

Under general supervision, plans and designs mechanical or electromechanical parts and systems. Directs and coordinates the operation and repair of instruments, controls, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems, utilizing and applying knowledge of engineering principles.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); three years previous professional experience; demonstrated oral and written communications skills; and a commitment to providing excellent customer service required.

Essential Functions

1. Plans and directs the fabrication of instruments, controls, engines, machines and other mechanical parts and systems.
2. Plans and designs the testing protocol for testing the apparatus to ensure that it meets the planned specifications and tolerances.
3. Coordinates the operation, maintenance and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines, parts and systems.
4. Performs fundamental mechanical engineering analysis such as calculation of stresses, fluid flow pressure losses, and thermal transfer rates.

Comments

Depending upon the area of assignment, the position may require that the incumbent be licensed as a professional engineer in the State of Utah.
