Job Title: Audio Engineer Team Leader

Job Summary

This position provides supervisory leadership for all facets of audio production associated with television programming produced by KUED, ensuring proper staffing, training, and performance to meet the technical production values of the station.

Qualifications

Eight years progressively responsible professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including two years experience in electronic maintenance, preferably in broadcast engineering. Demonstrated communication and organizational skills and a commitment to excellent customer service are also required. Experience with maintenance and repair of audio equipment and an ability to lift up to fifty pounds is strongly preferred.

Four years audio experience and knowledge of microphones, mixers, field and studio techniques, booming techniques, and familiarity with mixing procedures is preferred. Two years supervisory experience preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Maintains and secures necessary repairs and upgrades for audio field studio and post-production equipment, including proper care and storage
  2. Responsible for high quality technical and aesthetic audio associated with a wide variety of production styles at KUED
  3. Supervises audio production staff, including hiring, training, evaluation, distribution of work assignments, and disciplinary actions when necessary
  4. Evaluates and selects equipment for providing highest professional broadcast quality
  5. Responsible for high quality audio during post sweetening, field, studio and remote production for KUED
  6. Working in close collaboration with the Production Supervisor, provides guidance in staff assignments and development of personnel and facility scheduling. Provides supervision and evaluation of related field production positions, including staff Videographers
  7. Trains audio staff and other station personnel in proper operation of audio production equipment
  8. Manages the annual audio maintenance budget and authorizes spending in regard to the repair and maintenance of equipment
  9. May perform audio directing, which involves creative decisions pertaining to audio, delegation of audio duties and working with clients.

Comments

This position requires irregular scheduling, which may include night and weekend shifts, and travel to locations within Utah as well as out of state to support production activities.  Must be able to provide quality audio services for these productions.  The position and production responsibility may place an individual in settings of varied environment and comfort levels.
