Job Title: Sr Industrial Hygienist

Job Summary

Serves as a technical expert in industrial hygiene for the University with responsibility for conducting comprehensive industrial hygiene surveys and special studies. Provides expert advice concerning health hazards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or related area, or equivalency; five years experience in Industrial Hygiene; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene preferred.

Certification by the State of Utah as an Asbestos Inspector and certification or eligibility as a Diplomat by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Provides expert advice, direction, and service on industrial hygiene matters including immediate response and investigative action for environmental/occupational exposure situations.
  2. Identifies and prioritizes hazardous areas for evaluation, determines sampling strategy, selects and uses sampling equipment, and chooses analytical test to be performed.
  3. Controls measures for dealing with hazardous exposures, safe uses of toxic and/or hazardous substances (chemical, physical, and biological).
  4. Interprets and applies federal, state, and local occupational health, safety and environmental standards to hospital operations and activities.
  5. Evaluates exposures due to unusual hazards from unique research procedures or exposures not specifically covered by health and safety standards.
  6. Provides technical assistance in occupational physical examinations and recommendations as to the contents/health monitoring.

Comments

This position has rotating on-call responsibility.
