Job Title: Library Technician

Job Summary

Assists librarians by helping patrons use library catalogs, databases and indexes to locate books. Compiles records, sorts and shelves books, removes and repairs damaged books, registers patrons and checks materials in an out.

Qualifications

One year clerical or customer service experience required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

Essential Functions

  1. Reserves, circulates, renews and discharges books and other materials.
  2. Enters and updates patrons’ records on the computer.
  3. Provides assistance by locating materials.
  4. Answers routine reference questions.
  5. Sorts books, publications and other items according to procedure and returns them to shelves.
  6. Delivers and retrieves items throughout the library.

Nearly Continuously: Office environment.

Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required

Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking. 

Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
