Job Summary

Performs routine clerical procedures and patron services within an assigned library department.

Qualifications

Six months clerical or customer service experience required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

Essential Functions

  1. Provides patron service in assigned area such as answering questions via phone, email, or in person.
  2. Checks various materials in and out of library.
  3. Assists patrons with computer and hard copy searches.
  4. Collects money and produces receipts for fines and materials.
  5. Produces spine labels for library materials.
  6. Enters new arrivals and denotes the status of various items into the library's automated system.
  7. Receives, sorts and delivers mail.
  8. Performs area related clerical duties such as filing, typing, shelving and reorganizing new and old books, as well as general cleaning of assigned area.

Problem Solving

The problems associated with this position consist of assisting patrons locate materials. Responds to patron questions regarding fines and remaining calm when confronted with difficult patrons. When incumbents are faced with circumstances beyond their basic knowledge and authority, the problem is referred to the supervisor for resolution.

Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking. 

Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
