Job Summary

Maintains all electronic and operational equipment associated with the broadcast functions of KUED and sets up and operates all KUED major remote facilities in technical support of the Production Department.

Qualifications

Five years experience in the operation and maintenance of broadcast, electronic equipment; and demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills required.

Essential Functions

  1. Maintains all studio, remote, operational, and technical equipment including color cameras, video tape machines, switching and distribution equipment by following and reporting on a regular program of preventative maintenance to provide optimal use of station equipment with a minimum of down time.
  2. Repairs technical and broadcast equipment by trouble shooting, testing, locating problems, and repairing equipment by using schematics, test equipment and experience to provide KUED with maximum use of its equipment.
  3. Sets up and operates major remote facilities by using acquired and learned technical and broadcast skills and knowledge in support of the Production Department.
  4. Utilizes a wide variety of electronic test equipment such as: oscilloscopes, volt-OHM-meters, VTVM’s, signal generators, real-time spectrum analyzers, distortion analyzers, audio equalizers, frequency meters, transistor and vacuum tube testers, along with specialized hand and machine tools.
  5. Makes recommendations as to improvements of preventive maintenance schedules and servicing techniques to the supervisor.
  6. Responds to the immediate maintenance needs as indicated on the equipment maintenance forms by promptly making the necessary repairs to maintain operational capability.
  7. Determines, after production requirements are defined, the necessary electronic equipment required to adequately perform the necessary program needs.
  8. Makes recommendations to maintenance personnel to coordinate the maximum performance from the equipment.
  9. Evaluates the quality of the programs produced and broadcast from the station and establishes an effective program of quality control.
  10. Schedules the necessary engineering operational personnel to operate the necessary equipment in order to produce television programs and to broadcast programs over the air.
  11. Assists in the training and continuing education of engineering operational personnel to keep them abreast of the latest techniques in the electronic state-of-the-art.
  12. Makes recommendations to the Supervisor, Studio Operations concerning needed equipment and devices to facilitate television production.
  13. Assists production crews by providing assistance in staffing and operating engineering, operational, and broadcast equipment as needed in order to adequately support the Production Department.
  14. Makes recommendations to the Maintenance Supervisor as to which supplies are needed to maintain an adequate maintenance inventory.
