Job Summary

Provides a variety of media-related services, which support media projects for classes, research, grants, archiving, student services and public relations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years experience in performing professional media-related services, or equivalency. Specific skills in photography, editing, writing, and/or video and audio production required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Essential Functions

  1. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots instructional media equipment. Orders, upgrades, and maintains equipment and makes assessments for quality, price and support of inventory.
  2. Produces interactive and/or streaming videos for teaching and research functions.
  3. May be responsible for digitization, archiving, and maintaning digital media databases.
  4. Serves as media editor, which includes editing, newsgathering, writing, photography, desktop publishing, layout and design, must be familiar with editing software.
  5. Oversees and schedules use of media equipment and maintains a video library.
  6. Prepares, or assists in preparing, promotional materials including flyers, posters, graphs, overheads, and/or slides.
  7. May set up, lights, and operates a photo studio. Shoots slides on location, develops and maintains a photo library.
  8. May create audio and/or video tapes including production and voice work.
  9. May supervise the activities of lower level staff by training, planning and assigning work, making hiring recommendations and preparing performance appraisals.

Problem Solving

This position provides independent coordination and decision making for activities associated with media presentation, the outcome of which often impacts the University as a whole. Incumbent acts as a liaison between internal and external constituencies related to media activities. Problems arising from these coordination efforts will be addressed by the incumbent who will refer to the manager for issues outside of program policy and procedure guidelines.
