Job Summary
Assists in the smooth operation of the ceramics studio by performing standard ceramic studio operations under close supervision. Provides customer service to and shares expertise with students.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Fine Arts or equivalent experience required in studio experience with ceramic studio operations and techniques including kiln firing (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Ability to lift heavy objects; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required.

Essential Functions
Problem Solving
The Studio Assistant has the authority to determine inventory needs, mix new glazes, demonstrate different glaze techniques and instruct students in the proper handling of glazes, equipment and raku firings.
Problems faced by this incumbent include thinking of creative approaches to develop new glazes and their calculating and formulating new glaze recipes. Responsible for maintaining electric and gas kilns, and electric wheels.
