Job Summary

Supervises, oversees, operates and maintains printing services for the Academic Outreach and Continuing Education Office to provide high quality offset printed materials; oversees the Service Center which centralizes the purchase, storing and distribution of furniture, supplies and equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum of three years of experience that includes operation and maintenance of an offset press, plate maker, folding machine and copier; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required.

A background that includes purchasing and storeroom experience is strongly preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Operates an AB Dick 360 offset press, Mastermaker 675 and Conversion Unit 166; assesses work priorities to print AOCE division class schedules, work shop and seminar materials, course work and promotional pieces, brochures, flyers and posters in large quantities.
  2. Uses metal plates, close registration and heavy ink coverage in both, black and colored inks; adjusts machine tension and pressure, maintains and cleans daily and makes small repairs allowed under the service contract to produce the best printing results possible.
  3. Purchases paper, supplies, furniture and equipment, usually through a bidding process, but may use Purchase Orders to obtain "best buys" and to enable the Division to function.
  4. Supervises all aspects of the Service Center, including printing, paper cutting, copying, mailing and the purchase of office product needs by ascertaining customer needs and facilitating the completion of timely deadlines.
  5. Ascertains customer printing needs by discussing job parameters, offering suggestions where appropriate, and ensuring all work is done timely and satisfactorily.
  6. Bills respective units for services rendered to ensure appropriate reimbursement.
  7. Maintains records and inventories of all supplies, including catalogs, envelopes, etc. to have current information of stored and available materials.
  8. Assists in special projects as needed to facilitate project completion within specified deadlines.
  9. Works with University Design on special projects as necessary.

Problem Solving

The incumbent has the authority to work with departments to solve their printing needs and establish deadlines for completed work. He/she also has the authority to purchase office products and furniture, as well as maintain service center equipment, i.e. offset presses, copy and folding machines, etc.

This is a single incumbent position, and he/she must be able to meet very stringent deadlines on a daily basis, which often times requires the schedule to be altered. Problems can arise when there are machine malfunctions and breakdowns. The incumbent must also seek the "best buy" when making purchases, and must ensure sufficient inventory to meet the needs of the department.
