Job Summary

Acts as a working crew leader for employees assigned to moving projects. Determines equipment and manpower necessary. Assigns and inspects each job upon completion.

Qualifications

A valid Utah's Commercial Drivers License; three years previous transportation and moving experience with large moving equipment; demonstrated oral and written communications skills; and customer service skills to deal effectively with a variety of people required. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Assists in snow removal by overseeing and helping subordinates and repairing equipment as necessary to provide clear, safe parking lots, walkways, and roads throughout the University.
  2. Provides moving service by assigning and assisting subordinates in moving furniture, lab equipment, large freight and a variety of related items in order to facilitate the needs of other departments on campus.
  3. Oversees and helps in moving, setup, breakdown and delivery/pickup of tables and chairs as needed by requesting departments on campus.
  4. Accounts for subordinates time and equipment used on specific jobs in order to facilitate the payroll and budget control for use by the Supervisor, Transportation.
  5. Assigns work daily according to the assignments given by the incumbent's supervisor to ensure their safe and expedient accomplishment.
  6. Provides clean-up services by assigning and assisting subordinates and assigning equipment in order to keep the campus clean and tidy.
  7. Estimates material and time costs on small jobs by using experienced judgement in expediting completion of small jobs throughout the campus.
  8. Assists in the work and supervision of Construction Crew Leader's crew in the absence of the crew leader by assisting the crew in refuse pick-up, asphalt construction, and snow removal to ensure the completion of various job assignments on campus.

    Problem Solving

    The incumbent has the authority to prioritize and make assignments to subordinates and determines when to call in employees to work during times of inclement weather. He/she supervises 8 full-time non-exempt employees.

    Problems encountered in this position include calling subordinates for snow removal during the middle of the night; and repairing parking lots and roads when school is in session and the lots are full.

    Comments

    This position requires that the incumbent periodically work irregular hours on special assignments and sometimes during adverse weather conditions.
