Job Summary
Performs a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks on the journeyman level in maintaining, servicing, and repairing all manner of automotive, heavy duty, and related mechanical equipment. Ensures maximum use and operation from University vehicles through proper service and repair.
Qualifications
Successful completion of an accredited mechanics program (ASE Certification, Factory Certification, Accredited Technical school) and two years of shop experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); or 4 years of on the job training. Required to obtain a state safety inspection license, emissions license and air conditioning license within 6 months of employment.
Demonstrated customer service skills; and oral and written communications skills.

Essential Functions
Comments
The job requires considerable knowledge of the procedures, hazards, and safety practices applicable in making mechanical and electrical repairs. Skill in the use of automotive mechanic tools and acetylene and electric arc welding equipment is also important. Demonstrate the knowledge to work on pieces of light equipment such as golf carts, lawn mowers, and other equiptment as needed. Occasionally, the incumbent may be called to operate the wrecker in retrieving stalled or disabled vehicles.
