Job Summary
Ensures maintenance and construction of campus primary and secondary electrical distribution systems to include high voltage power distribution, two substations, inspection and maintenance of 125 elevators and associated systems.
Qualifications
Licensed Journeyman; five years full-time electrical experience to include high voltage overhead and underground training, cable splicing, and lineman pole training; and supervisory and budgeting experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Demonstrated oral and written communications skills, analytical, and trouble shooting skills; and demonstrated customer services skills also required.

Problem Solving
This position is given authority to make expenditures from his/her authorized assigned budget within the guidelines of University policy. He/she also has the authority to hire, fire, train and make salary decisions on employees assigned to the Electrical Shop and to prioritize and make work assignments.
Problems encountered in this position include high voltage system breakdowns leaving the campus without electrical power; assisting in designing electrical systems for existing and new installations; and trying to keep 30-50 year old systems running where equipment is obsolete, improvements are required and there is no funding available to upgrade the systems.
Comments
This position is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergency calls. The position must know how to deal with primary distribution systems consisting of 4,160 volts, 7,200 volts and 12,470 volts; and with secondary systems dealing with 120 volts, 208 volts, and 277/480 volts.
