University of Utah Job Description
Supervises the operation and maintenance of all plumbing facilities throughout the University. Ensures the proper, safe, and efficient completion of work to provide water, waste disposal system, natural gas, air, and other gases and liquids required by the University community.
Licensed as a Journeyman Plumber or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); five years of previous plumbing experience; demonstrated analytical, troubleshooting, and oral and written communications skills; and demonstrated customer services skills required. The incumbent may be requested to obtain a Backflow Preventors license, and a Utah Water Operator's license. Previous supervisory and budgeting experience is helpful.
The journeyman license is obtained through the completion of a comprehensive examination after the completion of a 4 year 8,000+ hour accredited apprenticeship program.
The Backflow Preventors license is obtained by the successful completion of a comprehensive examination after the completion of a intensive one week course.
The Water Operators license is obtained by the successful completion of a comprehensive examination after the completion of one year of correspondence courses and classroom work.

Problems encountered in this position include emergency utilities outages that may affect the whole campus.
