Job Title: Sprinkler Sys Crew Ldr

Job Summary

Supervises the maintenance of the watering operation by organizing, assigning, directing, and coordinating the activities and duties of Sprinkler Systems Operators to insure a green campus. Works with supervisor in seeing that equipment is operable and that materials are available. Responsible for the campus golf course and student housing.

Qualifications

Five years previous experience as a Grounds Sprinkler Operator, or equivalency; and previous successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program as a Grounds Sprinkler Operator, or equivalency required. Demonstrated oral and written communications skills, analytical, and trouble shooting skills; and demonstrated customer services skills also required.

A Journeyman Sprinkler Applicator and Irrigation License is preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Schedules work of Sprinkler System Operators by assigning and explaining responsibilities, duties, and tasks to be accomplished to insure that all watering systems are properly maintained, and that manpower resources are efficiently utilized.
  2. Trains new people by instructing and acquainting them with the techniques of each watering system and their operations for each area. Provides instruction on proper maintenance for valves, clocks, heads, and other related equipment.
  3. Obtains some knowledge of the budget for the area in order to ensure that expenditures and expenses stay within the established limits.
  4. Exercises responsibility over materials, supplies, and equipment within the area by coordinating and regulating their use to guarantee effective materials allocation.
  5. Assumes responsibility for seeing that all maintenance is at a high level and that all equipment is in good condition.
  6. Assumes responsibility to see that a variety of miscellaneous tasks are accomplished such as policing the areas for paper, removing snow from walkways, raking leaves, maintaining grounds and equipment.
  7. Reviews plans and submits necessary recommendations as to ground sprinkler designs.
  8. Coordinates with contractors to insure proper installations with Grounds and Campus Planning design requirements.
  9. Ensures that all sprinkler system maintenance is accomplished in accordance with University and department policies and procedures.
  10. Provides assistance to subordinates to insure uniformity in standard tasks that are performed within the department.
  11. Ensures that seasonal tasks are completed expediently and efficiently in order to preserve the beauty of the campus and provide safety for the University community.

    Comments

    This position requires that the incumbent periodically work irregular hours on special assignments and sometimes during adverse weather conditions.

    The incumbent must be able to orient and instruct employees on techniques, regulations, and procedures in regard to all forms of sprinkler systems.
