Job Title: Landscape Gardener Crewleader

Job Summary

Supervises and coordinates the landscape maintenance activities and responsibilities in the assigned area by directing the duties that promote the best possible appearance of the campus grounds.

Qualifications

An Associate's degree in a related field and two years experience related to the area of assignment; a valid Utah Driver's license; and a Utah Pesticide Applicator's license required.

Dependent upon area of assignment, a Utah Commercial Driver's License class B may be required.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Essential Functions

  1. Manages assigned area by prioritizing, scheduling and organizing daily and seasonal crew assignments and responsiblities.
  2. Hires, fires and evaluates employees.
  3. Trains employees on operation and safety of all tools and equipment.
  4. Develops and implements a plan for the application of fertilizers, fungicides and pesticides for assigned area.
  5. Schedules, monitors and arranges for upkeep and repairs on sprinklers, tools and equipment.
  6. Provides snow removal to assigned areas of campus.

    Problem Solving

    Problems the incumbent may encounter include proper scheduling of fertilization and irrigation so as to minimize disruption to campus activities; irrigation troubleshooting and repairs; and coordinating the staffing assignments to meet the department schedule.

    Comments

    Related Associate's degrees would be Horticulture, Greenhouse Production, and Turf Grass Management.

    Depending upon area of assignment, completion of a two-year apprenticeship program may be substituted for the Associate's degree.
