Job Summary

Supervises and maintains staffing. Provides equipment and supplies for an assigned custodial area. Insures that buildings are maintained at the highest level of cleanliness in the most efficient manner.

Qualifications

This position requires two years as a custodial crew leader or the equivalency. The incumbent must have demonstrated oral and written communications skills to deal with a variety of people. The position requires a knowledge of custodial work standards in order to establish, oversee and evaluate work assignments.

Essential Functions

  1. Provides training for new crew leaders and custodians needing additional training in procedures and methods, with assistance from the Custodial Trainer.
  2. Tests and evaluates new products, supplies, and equipment in order to maximize the greatest cost savings and output efficiency.
  3. Prepares reports and completes records concerning tests and evaluations and forwards to Custodial Manager for review.
  4. Makes daily visual inspections of area for cleanliness, work progress, and completed work drawing attention to deficiencies that need to be corrected.
  5. Reviews budget on a weekly basis by analyzing the weekly budget expenditures report provided, reviewing specific expenditures with each crew leader, and making any adjustments needed.
  6. Reviews and updates standards program for his/her area and makes recommendations for additions or deletions to the program.
  7. Recruits, hires, fires, trains, supervises, and is responsible for other personnel actions within his/her area.
  8. Orders and maintains inventory control for keys needed in his/her assigned area.
  9. Holds weekly staff meetings with crew leaders to review weekly schedule, discuss problems, and participate in improvised training.

    Problem Solving

    This position has complete authority for hiring, firing, disciplining and making salary recommendations for employees in his/her area. The incumbent is given authority to expend funds assigned to him/her.

    Problems encountered in this position include trying to maintain 100% staffing in an area that typically experiences high turnover; and trying to motivate employees to do a thorough job.

    Comments

    Each supervisor is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 1,000,000 square feet of building space.
