Job Summary

Assists the Director and Licensing Manager in reviewing incoming inventions and marketing them to industry.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or equivalency; two years full-time experience; demonstrated communication and human relations skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required.

A Master's degree preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Assists the Director and Licensing Manager in reviewing and analyzing incoming invention disclosures.
  2. Performs market studies and patent analyses on invention disclosures; formulates and implements invention marketing plans.
  3. Maintains disclosure records and summaries, and creates reports detailing current invention status and activity. Formulates non-confidential summaries of submitted inventions for marketing and identifies potential avenues for the commercialization of inventions.
  4. Markets selected technologies to identified prospects, ensures protection of University proprietary rights, and assists in negotiating and consummating contracts with such prospects. Monitors existing contracts to ensure compliance with contract terms.
  5. Assists in the negotiation of intellectual property clauses in research agreements.

Problem Solving

The incumbent is responsible for the efficient maintenance of technology records and files. He/she interacts with faculty and industry to ensure the technologies are marketed to appropriate individuals and companies.

This position determines that the marketing efforts are appropriate and recommends and implements methods to overcome any existing record-keeping and reporting requirements.

The incumbent does not have budgetary responsibility, but is responsible in part for the administration of the technology disclosed to the Technology Transfer office.
