Job Summary

Assists the Nuclear Pharmacist in the daily preparation, dispensing, ordering and transport of radiopharmaceuticals. Handles accounts receivable and payment of vendor invoices. Orders and maintains laboratory equipment and supplies. Maintains records for all necessary safety and regulatory training.

Qualifications

Associates degree in a related field, or equivalency. Must be eligible to obtain a Class C Chauffeur’s License in the State of Utah. Must be trained to legally transport Radioactive Material on Public Highways. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Essential Functions

  1. Assists the Nuclear Pharmacist in the procurement, compounding, quality assurance, dispensing, and distribution of Radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  2. Helps maintain all records as mandated by state and federal regulations for a radiopharmacy.
  3. Coordinates the technical staff of the radiopharmacy in the performance of their duties.
  4. Assures that all packaging and shipping of radioactive material are in compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  5. Prepares and maintains radiation safety and drivers training safety records.
  6. Oversees ordering and maintenance of the Radiopharmacy inventory.
  7. Supervises lab technicians and pharmacy interns in the performance of their duties.
  8. Responsible for accounts receivable and payment of invoices for the Radiopharmacy vendors.
  9. May prepare lectures and training modules for the Radiopharmacy.

Problem Solving

The technical coordinator must constantly monitor the radiopharmacy to make sure it has adequate inventory, delivery vehicles, equipment and supplies to provide radiopharmaceutical services to area Nuclear Medicine Departments. Incumbent must have a thorough understanding of shipping regulations and vendor ordering procedures.

Comments

Incumbent will experience moderate exposure to hazardous materials or physical risk, which requires adhering to safety precautions. Full time, 40 hrs/wk, variable schedule plus call.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:

Nearly Continuously: Office environment.

Often: Infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).

Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required

Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting. 

Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
