Job Summary

Serves as a technician in the field of industrial hygiene or occupational safety. Responsibilities for compliance auditing, sampling and performing work place health and safety surveys. Identifies unsafe or unhealthy situations or practices to the assigned specialist team.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in related field or equivalent experience in a science or research laboratory environment required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills. Ability to present to small or large groups of people. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.

A current Driver’s License may be required.

Essential Functions

  1. Performs audits of work places and evaluates collected audit data to determine compliance with OSHA regulations. Prepares draft audit result communications.
  2. Assists Industrial Hygiene and/or Occupational Safety teams with occupational exposure monitoring and other related duties.
  3. May perform field work required for compliance such as calibrating and operating equipment for taking samples and monitoring personnel exposure, making mathematical calculations, obtaining media, submitting samples for analysis and documenting events.
  4. May perform field work involving measurements as directed to determine adequacy and performance of local exhaust ventilation systems including laboratory chemical hoods.  Enter collected data into fume hood survey database.

Problem Solving

The incumbent is authorized to use creativity and independent research into finding the most cost-effective way to perform the required activities.

Comments

The incumbent may be required to wear personal protective equipment including respiratory protection for protection against potentially hazardous environments.

Incumbent will usually work normal work days but unusual work shifts including nights and weekends may be required.
