University of Utah Job Description
Orders, receives, inspects, warehouses and issues equipment, materials and supplies to various University departments. Assists with outgoing shipments.
Four years shipping and receiving/stockroom experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). with preferably at least two years supervisory experience; the ability to routinely move or manipulate heavy objects; a knowledge of standard warehousing procedures; demonstrated human relations skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required.
A valid Utah Driver's license with proof of insurability may be required for positions that require delivery responsibilities.

This position works independently in the performance of most tasks and has authority to make hire/salary recommendations for Storekeeper I's and II's. He/she may determine disciplinary actions to take within the parameters of University policy and with input from the supervisor. The incumbent will generally oversee the stockroom activities of a university department and have authority to select appropriate supplies/materials and prioritize work functions. He/she makes recommendations and may be responsible for the implementation of new internal procedures.
Examples of problems encountered by the incumbent include ensuring the proper shipping and handling of hazardous materials; assisting department personnel with special orders; and getting deliveries to customers promptly and correctly. He/she will be required to determine the appropriate discounts on damaged items; coordinate the ordering process with vendors; resolve order problems and ensure good recovery with customers; and locate difficult items or those needed quickly. The incumbent also provides adequate inventory for common departmental needs and assists departments with furniture selection and office design.

Often: Hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).
Seldom: Extreme cold, extreme heat, noise (there is sufficient noise to cause you to shout in order to be heard above the noise level).

Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
Often: Walking, standing, bending, lifting - up to 50 pounds.
Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead, lifting - over 50 pounds.
