Job Title: Senior Mail Handler
Job Code: 2344 Grade/FLSA: B/Non-Exempt

Job Summary

Uses complex equipment to insert mail into envelopes and address/label materials. Operates postage meters and scales. Trains and supervises department employees to comply with all U.S. Postal Service and University regulations.

Qualifications

Five years work experience in machine operation, assembly, order taking, delivery or related work experience, with one of these years in a mail facility; a valid Utah driver's license; and the ability to routinely move up to 60 pounds required. Familiarity with personal computers; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Familiarity with U.S. Postal regulations preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Trains and supervises employees on the procedures required in one functional area (processing bulk mail, campus mail, U.S. Postal Service mail and/or express mail (Federal Express or UPS).
  2. Operates specialized mechanical and computerized equipment required to process mail.
  3. Trains and supervises employees on the safe and appropriate use of simple mail processing equipment.
  4. Generates postage reports, production reports, efficiency reports, and other reports as required using the department's Mail Management Information System computer program.
  5. Inputs labor and supply charges into billing statements using the department's computer system.
  6. Monitors mailing equipment and vehicles by performing routine and preventive maintenance; contacts vendors and arranges for service and/or repair.
  7. Assists in all areas of the central mail facility as required to meet University timeframes.
