Job Summary

Supports fund-raising activities, public relations, and management of sponsored programs and special projects/events within a college or department.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalency; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

Experience which includes fund-raising, grant and publication writing, planning and implementing special events and programs and a successful track record in raising donations is preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Assists in organizing and implementing fund-raising campaigns and special development projects for a department.
  2. Plans, develops and manages specific program/events centered on public relations and development activities.
  3. Researches sources, collaborates with staff members and coordinates volunteers.
  4. Assists with design and implementation of new ideas and programs. Evaluates effectiveness and makes recommendations for change.
  5. Identifies and maintains information on donors and prospective donors.
  6. Develops and distributes brochures and literature supporting development activities and programs. Prepares media and press releases, public service announcements and coordinates interviews.

Problem Solving

Incumbents in this position have latitude to coordinate specific programs including negotiating fees with vendors and making volunteer and support staff assignments for fund-raising events. This position does not directly supervise others.

Challenges associated with this position include ensuring that deadlines are met, and assisting in the development of fund-raising strategies for an entity not commonly regarded as a source of funding.
