University of Utah Job Description
Directs all development activities involved with the solicitation of donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies. This may include directing and coordinating efforts to solicit and secure gifts of various amounts including gifts of significant value and/or developing, planning and coordinating the Annual Giving Program.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Communication, Public Relations, English, or a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); five years experience in fund-raising, marketing, sales, business, public relations, annual, corporate or foundation giving which includes two years of budgeting and supervisory experience. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.
Experience in grant or proposal writing, public speaking, a background working with print and/or electronic media, an understanding of university fund-raising practices and personnel management is preferred.

This position has the authority to hire and fire staff, to approve expenditures of the department/colleges operating and personnel budget consistent with the approved long-range goals and plans. The incumbent makes direct contact with potential donors or foundations, maintains and updates potential and current donor relations within the procedures determined by the University President's office related to donor clearance.
The major challenges of this position are achieving annual fund-raising financial objectives in a competitive market; creating new revenue streams and supervision of a creative workforce.
