Job Summary

Oversees the scientific writing process for accurate and timely submission of manuscripts, grant applications, scientific papers and abstracts. Also provides technical and design consultation in allied areas.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalency; plus two years related experience required. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Essential Functions

  1. Oversees and coordinates the scientific writing process concerning manuscripts, grant applications, scientific papers and/or abstracts.
  2. Ensures consistency and timeliness of all editorial operations.
  3. Consults with and advises contributors regarding design and technical aspects.
  4. Writes procedures, forms and/or instruction manuals. Researches and implements improvements.
  5. Supervises junior staff and manages related personnel matters.
  6. Oversees budget; monitors and approves related expenditures and ensures budget goals are met.
  7. May monitor and coordinate production related processes.

Problem Solving

The incumbent must address discrepancies between the material submitted and publication requirements and standards and negotiate revisions and an acceptable content, which must be handled in a diplomatic manner. Documents must be reviewed for adherence to policies, for plagiarism and/or falsification of data. He/she is often responsible for establishing project production schedules and determining when to move from one stage of the process to another. Accommodations for last minute changes are subject to the discretion of the incumbent.

Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
