Job Title: Coordinator, Counseling Svcs

Job Summary

Coordinates all counseling services for the Women's Resource Center (WRC), including individual and group counseling, as well as overseeing workshops, supervising interns, coordinating events and serving as a liaison with other departments and agencies.

Qualifications

Licensed to practice as a Clinical Social Worker in the State of Utah, or a Master's Degree in Counseling; two years related experience that includes individual and group counseling experience; acceptable credentials to supervise graduate interns; and evidence of developed specialty, or specific focus on counseling women required. Background must include experience working with a diverse community of women, i.e. women of color, age, low income, single parent, sexual orientation, religious background and disabilities. Incumbent must have a commitment to a psycho-education approach in providing services, a strong feminist perspective in both counseling theory and in the plan for delivering services.

Essential Functions

  1. Provides psychotherapy for individual clients, establishes goals for areas of change, assists clients to feel empowered to handle needed change and identifies whether progress is being made, or a referral is necessary.
  2. Facilitates and provides group counseling to women, creates an environment where members learn how to work together to share concerns, ensure specific issues are addressed and personal growth is achieved.
  3. Supervises interns by utilizing standard supervision processes, and furthers their development as a counselor.
  4. Initiates and plans group sessions and workshops, takes a leadership role as a facilitator to meet client needs for the WRC.
  5. Oversees intern seminar by serving in a teaching position to enable the group to do research and function collectively.
  6. Completes and maintains appropriate records pertaining to counseling sessions with clients, their progress and goals met, as well as hours spent.
  7. Functions as a liaison for the WRC to campus and community agencies, by serving on task forces, and speaks to community and student groups to increase awareness of women's issues.

Problem Solving

The Coordinator of Counseling Services for the Women's Resource Center has the authority to supervise interns, counsel individual clients and client groups, determine areas of counseling service and plan and conduct workshops.

The incumbent supervises between 4-6 interns each year.
