Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to research development functions of assigned department's internal and external customer service, staffing and financial management operations pertaining to areas including (but not limited to) proposals, applications, compliance, contract negotiation, budgeting and disbursement, and monitoring and evaluation. Acts as a catalyst between the department and its customers and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or Bachelor’s degree + four years of related experience or 12 years of related experience.

Essential Functions

  • Forecasts, develops and implements policies and procedures in the areas of customer service, staff management and budgetary goals and objectives that are consistent with the University of Utah's policies.
  • Participates in University-wide committees to establish customer service standards and administrative plans and policies.
  • Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
  • Develops departmental strategies consistent with the assigned department’s continuous quality improvement program.
  • Ensures competency of staff, determines departmental training needs, develops and presents educational programs and training as needed, mentors, coaches and oversees ongoing staff performance management.
  • Involved in hiring decisions for assigned unit and acts as a direct supervisor to staff.
  • May perform responsibilities as a Research Development Associate III.
  • Consistently works on highly complex problems requiring independent action and decision making. Must determine best course of action to resolve problems and frequently makes recommendations for improvement.
