Job Summary

Directs development activities for a large university department/college/area, including developing appeals, cultivating donors and prospective donors, soliciting gifts, and ensuring all gifts are acknowledged. Works closely with Dean/Department Chair/Leadership to develop and implement fundraising priorities, strategy, programs and financial objectives for assigned school/college/department, including (but not limited to) planned giving, major gifts, community outreach, memberships, volunteer programs, corporations, foundations and neighborhood partnerships. Develops goals and strategies for all fundraising campaigns. Acts as a catalyst between departments, faculty, staff, students, and external entities to ensure continuity and quality of service. Develops long-term donor relationships and solicits gifts in the 6 to 7-figure range. Supervises one or more employees.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree or equivalent experience (One year of education is equivalent to two years of experience).
• Four years of related experience

Essential Functions

• Directs development activities for a large university department/college/area, including developing appeals, cultivating donors and prospective donors, soliciting gifts, and ensuring all gifts are acknowledged.
• Prepares proposals by conducting research, coordinating with departments and board members, meeting with potential donors, corporations, or foundations, and writing proposals and budgets for submission
• Plans strategies and goals to increase fund-raising effectiveness including corporate and foundation giving, annual giving, major gifts, capital campaigns, planned giving, communications, and events.
• Collaborates with senior administrators, deans, and directors to identify initiatives for fund development and plan campaigns.
• Analyzes market research and performance data to aid in fundraising.
• Develops long-term relationships with higher level actual and potential donors and solicits gifts in the 6 to 7-figure range.
• Develops gift agreements for larger or more complex gifts, pledges, and endowments.
• Ensures appropriate recognition and stewardship of donors.
• Oversees or partners with marketing professionals to manage donor communications.
• Organizes, trains, and directs volunteers, including advisory boards and committees as well as fundraising participants for telemarketing appeals.
• Oversees department budget including projections, purchases and inventory.
• Ensures gifts are deposited correctly and reconciled with accounting system.
• Maintains prospect management system for donors, including active plans.
• May oversee annual giving, alumni, or membership programs.
• Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff.
