Job Summary

Implements development activities for a university department/college/area, including conducting market and donor research; developing proposals and appeals; cultivating alumni, members, donors and/or prospective donors; soliciting gifts, and ensuring appropriate stewardship. May develop long-term donor relationships and solicit gifts in the 5 to 6-figure range. Plans and directs day-to-day work of staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience (One year of education is equivalent to two years of experience).
  • Four years of related experience.

Essential Functions

  • Carries out development activities for a university department/college/area, including developing appeals, cultivating alumni, members, donors and/or prospective donors, soliciting gifts, and ensuring all gifts are acknowledged.
  • Prepares proposals by conducting research, coordinating with departments and board members, meeting with potential donors, corporations, or foundations, and writing proposals and budgets for submission.
  • Analyzes market research and performance data to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Assists in setting department short and long-term goals.
  • Ensures appropriate recognition and stewardship of donors.
  • May develop long-term relationships with potential donors and solicit gifts in the 5 to 6-figure range.
  • Maintains prospect management system for donors, including active plans.
  • Manages department budget including purchases and inventory.
  • Assumes authority and performs functions of the development director in his/her absence.
  • May oversee annual giving, alumni, or membership programs.
  • Plans and directs the day-to-day work of staff. Trains staff, establishes and communicates performance expectations.
