*This job code is only for use within Undergraduate Studies*
Student Success Coaches (SSCs) have a unique role at the University of Utah, providing individualized, holistic support for undergraduate students whatever their program of study, constellation of identities, or progress towards graduation. SSCs serve students at the intersections of multiple domains, from academic to health to financial. SSCs are trained coaches—through a partnership with InsideTrack and Strada Education Network—who prioritize student well-being, centering authentic relationship and research-based student success praxis. Our mission is to assist all students in gaining access to a high-quality college education and a rich and meaningful college experience.
SSCs strive to be a force for equity and inclusion at the University of Utah and beyond. SSCs recognize structural racism as a barrier to full access and utilize critically-informed college student development, learning, and persistence theories to assist new, transfer, and current students in successfully navigating the University environment. SSCs assist students in building appropriate help-seeking and self-advocacy behaviors that enable them to overcome obstacles and promote engagement in opportunities within and beyond the University classroom. This work is student-driven, evidence-based, data-informed, and affirming each students’ capacity for self-direction, personal growth, academic success, and timely degree completion.
