Job Summary

With expert knowledge in research development, this role independently implements a wide range of strategic, proactive, and capacity building activities designed to enable and enhance research and may include strategic research advancement, communication of research and research opportunities, enhancement of collaboration and team science, and proposal development. Trains other Research Development Associates, and serves as a key Research Development Liaison to other units.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree + two years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree + six years of related experience or 14 years of related experience.

Essential Functions

  • Proficient with all the duties and responsibilities of a Research Development Associate III
  • Interact with political and corporate leaders related to research initiatives internally and with partner institutions/organizations
  • Analyzes outcomes and undertakes evaluation projects using data from the team’s portfolio and develops key recommendations to unit leadership.
  • Pro-actively seeks new opportunities to grow and expand the University’s strategic research mission; may develop and/or oversee multiple initiatives; Seeks new opportunities for proposal development
  • Research Initiative Staff lead - key partner with initiative directors to form strategic direction and guide ; pro-actively seeks new opportunities to grow and expand; has experience developing and overseeing multiple strategic efforts and initiatives
  • Serve as a mentor within the team and for faculty. Mentors and trains other research development associates.
  • Key contributor to proposal through writing, reviewing, editing, etc; can drive proposals from start to finish; ability to lead teams for complex multi-component proposals
  • Manage internal and external review for the proposal process,
  • May manage a small graphic design portfolio & associated budget
  • May participate as key personnel in grant proposals
  • Develops and Executes communication strategies to inform internal and external stakeholders of research operations, including routine senior leadership reporting;
  • Raise profile of university strengths to increase visibility and impact of research with external funding sources
  • Guide integrated research teams (sharing leadership responsibilities and decision-making authority)
  • Problems faced are both strategic and operational, and often complex without clear precedent.
