Job Title: Sr. Director, Animal Care

Job Summary

Ensures overall facility compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Has responsibility for animal care program, policy, planning, and administration.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree + six years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree + ten years of related experience or 18 years of related experience.
  • LATG or CVT

Essential Functions

  • Program oversight and mentorship of managerial staff.
  • Oversees department service delivery.
  • Engages with key stakeholders to ensure needs will be met.
  • Creates culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Oversees resourcing for program areas, manages to financials.
  • Assists the ED in strategic visioning and planning for specific program areas.
  • Oversees recruitment for new staff within the department.

Comments

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:

  • Nearly Continuously: Standard vivarium environment; with typical vivarium environmental hazards and concerns. Standard laboratory environment; Safety shoes are required to be worn by all employees working in animal facilities
  • Seldom: Occasionally handles/works with biohazards or risks for potential job-related injury, rarely coming in contact with hazardous materials.

Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required:

  • Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking, walking.
  • Often: Bending, reaching overhead, twisting.
  • Seldom: Lifting - up to 50 pounds, kneeling, squatting.
