Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and to the University of Utah Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the University of Utah Health Chief Philanthropy Officer is responsible for managing, overseeing and/or coordinating all aspects of U of U Health advancement activities, to include all fundraising efforts for U of U Health. The Chief Philanthropy Officer oversees operations, strategy, budget, and workforce development and planning within the U of U Health Office of Advancement.

Qualifications

Requires Bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of professional fundraising experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Demonstrated skills in leadership, management, financial planning, quality improvement, and service delivery; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

Preferences

Given the complex nature of the University of Utah Health, a proven record of fundraising effectiveness in an academic medical setting will be weighted heavily. Graduate degree(s) or comparable experience is preferred

Essential Functions

1. Build an advancement operation and team at U of U Health that is one to be emulated nationally, and captures and realizes all the potential and specific philanthropy for the institution.
2. Increase the effectiveness of development officers and directors who directly meet with and solicit donors and donor prospects, utilizing necessary analytics and accountability, including goal-setting, relationship management system, contact reporting, and other metrics.
3. Mentor and coach U of U Health development and alumni directors and their respective support staff to solicit major gift donors and identify opportunities to strengthen, leverage and engage the organization's trustees and advisory boards in meaningful ways, thereby creating a flourishing culture where advancement professionals find satisfaction and fulfillment in their roles and a workplace that is mission-driven.
4. Develop and lead a major fundraising campaign for U of U Health with the aim of significantly increasing fundraising success in the Colleges of Health, Pharmacy, Nursing, Schools of Dentistry and Medicine and University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics through the establishment of a strategic plan for fund raising campaigns with detailed goals, objectives, and metrics that will help meet critical needs within the Health Sciences.
5. Develop and implement a successful "grateful patient" program to engage individuals seeking care at University of Utah Health facilities. As part of this effort, include a plan for the education and support of faculty and staff regarding their role in identifying and responding to philanthropic opportunities.
6. Carry a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors and maintaining visibility with key donor and volunteer constituencies, so as to lead by example.
7. Work within an established budget and ensure a reasonable return on investment through prudent use of resources.
8. Work collegially and effectively with Marketing and Communications regarding fundraising events, projects and milestones, and branding.
9. Ensure full collaboration and coordination with the University's Vice President for Institutional Advancement and the main campus fundraising office.
