Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement the Campus Chief Philanthropy Officer is responsible for managing, overseeing, and/or coordinating all aspects of campus advancement activities, to include all fundraising efforts of academic and non-academic areas, legacy giving, corporate and foundation giving (with the CPO-Health), annual giving (with Chief Alumni Relations Officer), donor stewardship, special fundraising initiatives managed by the Advancement office, strategy, budget, workforce development and planning.

Qualifications

Requires Bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of professional fundraising experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Demonstrated skills in leadership, management, financial planning, quality improvement, and service delivery; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

Preferences

• A proven record of fundraising effectiveness in an academic setting;
• A graduate degree(s) or comparable experience.

Essential Functions

1. Build an advancement operation and team across campus (non-health areas) that captures and realizes all the potential and specific philanthropy for the University;
2. Increase the effectiveness of development officers and directors who are front-line fundraisers, using analytics and accountability, including goal-setting, prospect management, building donor portfolios, developing cultivation and solicitation strategies, and other metrics;
3. Develop campus-wide strategies for annual giving, legacy giving, corporate & foundation giving, and donor stewardship that provide strong service to and increase the fundraising success of areas;
4. Carry a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors and maintain visibility with key donor and volunteer constituencies;
5. Manage fiscal and human resources for the Advancement Office;
6. Liaison campus front-line fundraising with the Advancement Office’s service, data, and prospect management functions;
7. Develop and manage career paths and front-line fundraising training programs for new and developing (mid-level?) professionals;
8. Participate in campus-wide advancement strategic planning.
