The Advanced Legal Consultant will draft gift agreements for major and principal gifts to ensure they meet the donor’s and University’s objectives as well as meet programmatic, legal, ethical, and financial standards of the University. The position is also responsible for managing the endowment reporting process
Juris Doctorate or related degree required or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus six years of related experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. • Work with advancement professionals across campus to create gift agreements for new major and principal gifts, including endowments, namings, and multi-year funding gifts, as well as amendments of previously established gifts and endowments. Track and manage agreements through signing;• Ensure gift agreements for multi-year gifts, endowments, and namings meet legal, ethical, and financial standards of the University;• Establish and implement a system to regularly review all endowment agreements and current multi-year gift agreements to ensure programmatic, legal, ethical, and financial compliance, including reporting;• Oversee the annual reporting process for endowed funds, including preparing and submitting reports, analyzing and preparing data for areas, responding to donor inquiries, compile report collaterals, and other reporting tasks as identified;• Serve as Advancement’s primary liaison to the University’s Office of General Counsel on legal matters pertaining to gift agreements;• Use donor database to track and manage gift agreements and financial database to audit expenditures of gifts and endowments, handling queries and audits of information as needed and ensuring compliance with University policy, state and federal regulations;• Serve as the primary resource for campus-wide advancement professionals and external interested parties for inquiries on University policies and procedures regarding gift, naming, and endowment agreements, compliance issues, and endowment reporting/stewardship;• Ensure that development policies reflect current state and federal laws for charitable gifts and endowments and provide training on updates to advancement professionals across campus;
