Job Summary
Responsible for all direction and administration of the University of Utah Nuclear Reactor Facility and associated radio-chemical laboratories. Serves as the Level II Supervision authority (as noted under ANSI 15.1-2007, Reaffirmed April 10, 2018), with administrative reporting to the senior Nuclear Engineering faculty member (or appointed representative, designated by the CVEEN Department Chairman), with final reporting responsibility to the Level I Administrator (the University of Utah Vice President for Research (VPR)). Supervises all Level III personnel including all TRIGA reactor operations staff; ensures all facility personnel meet licensing guidelines, standards, safety, and security requirements; and coordinates reactor facility services for university faculty for sponsored research. Monitors radiation safety compliance, facility operations & maintenance, radiation work permits, laboratory equipment, etc. Prepares budget estimates for reactor research and coordinates reactor schedule. Serves as a “second person” available/on-call during reactor operations. Presents audit reports to the Reactor Safety Committee. Additional duties may be assigned as required.
