Job Summary
Performs semi-technical laboratory and research procedures under the general supervision of senior laboratory personnel.
Qualifications
One year full-time laboratory experience or equivalency required (1 year full-time lab equivalency equals successful completion of 2 semesters laboratory (college) course work) ; knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment and terminology as well as knowledge of chemical and physical properties of materials or substances and appropriate specimen handling techniques required.
Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. Essential Functions
Problem Solving
The incumbent exercises limited judgment based on established procedures when planning methods, altering the physical aspects of project settings, and applying suitable techniques and procedures. Employees assist senior laboratory personnel in performing standardized physical, chemical, or biological tests. Sensitive or unusual situations are referred to the supervisor.
Work is performed under the close supervision of senior laboratory personnel. Work is frequently reviewed for accuracy and to ensure adherence to research protocols.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
Often: Infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).
Seldom: Exposure to animals.
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required
Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.
Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
