Job Title: Performing Arts Specialist

Job Summary

Provides instruction on the artistic and technical elements of performing arts to young students. Conducts outreach activities to community organizations regarding performing arts and the University dance company.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in music or a related field or equivalency; training in the Tanner method of dance instruction; four years of professional performing and composition experience.
Demonstrated communication skills; the ability to interact with/and teach children; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. 
Accompanying and composing experience in the Tanner Dance Program preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Accompany weekly dance classes at the Tanner Dance studios and/or offsite at Arts in Education partner schools.
  • Compose original music for annual Tanner Dance performances, i.e. Children’s Dance Theatre spring concert, In Accord performances, and other special projects.
  • Schedule hourly musicians for classes, and manage communication regarding subs or replacements.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor new musicians.
  • Maintain pianos and other instruments throughout the studios; repairing, tuning, and upgrading when needed.
  • Maintain sound systems in the studios. Schedule and oversee maintenance when needed.
  • Update and add to the music resource binders.
  • Develop and teach music classes, workshops, and performance opportunities for students.
  • Provide professional development for faculty and staff.
