This position assists Principal Investigators in their Department/College by performing administrative and technical functions associated with grants, contracts, and other agreements from external funding sources. The grants administrator also serves as a liaison to the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), the Office of the Vice President and Research, and other campus entities as necessary.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field plus two years experience working with federal or private funding agencies on grants, contracts or other agreements, or equivalency required.  Eight years of work experience in administration, accounting and/or general office supervision can be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree. The ability to work independently and effectively under pressure. Strong communication and organizational skills are necessary.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Essential Functions

  1. Identifies and communicates potential funding opportunities to faculty principal investigators (P.I.), departmental administrators and other support staff.
  2. Provides assistance with the determination of sponsoring agency submission and expenditure requirements.
  3. Coordinates budget preparation and design with faculty for contracts, grants and subcontract applications.
  4. Reviews proposals for completeness and assists with the adherence of required institutional documentation and deadlines.
  5. Assists with the development and assembling of interdisciplinary teams, internal and external.
  6. Maintains a current knowledge of changing institutional policies and federal requirements governing externally funded grants and contracts.
  7. Monitors project spending to ensure funds received are expended according to federal, state and University regulations.
  8. Makes requests for additional or supplemental approvals from funding sponsor when required by a grant or contract.
