Job Summary

Repairs and maintains dialysis equipment utilized in the dialysis facilities and by home dialysis patients. Researches information and recommends dialysis equipment.

Qualifications

Seven years work experience in electronics, mechanical, electrical and plumbing or equivalency required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Essential Functions

  1. Repairs and refurbishes dialysis equipment.
  2. Performs mechanical, electrical and plumbing duties to complete repairs.
  3. Maintains inventory of dialysis equipment.
  4. Trains others on proper usage of dialysis equipment.
  5. Assists doctors with research projects by providing technical help and information.
  6. Records equipment maintenance information.
  7. Reviews literature to improve methods of repair and maintenance of dialysis equipment and updates methods to comply with revised Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards.
  8. Researches modifications for dialysis equipment to repair and upgrade.
  9. Tests, evaluates and makes recommendations for new dialysis equipment.

Problem Solving

This position functions independently when problems arise with water treatment equipment and dialysis machines. They must troubleshoot issues immediately and correct problems so dialysis treatments can be carried out. An initial analysis of the problem and decision on the particular parts to take in order to resolve the problem is made before traveling to location.

Comments

This position travels among several dialysis centers and homes of dialysis patients within a large region to repair dialysis equipment.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
