Job Summary
The Eligibility Specialist is responsible for the determination of eligibility of ocular tissue and for the timely release of donor charts. Leads the medical review training and ensures that donor charts are reviewed in a timely manner to assist tissue allocation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, other related scientific discipline, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); one year experience in eye, tissue or organ donation and experience with interpreting EBAA and FDA regulation. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Certification as an Eye Bank Technician required within one year of hire.
Experience with medical terminology is preferred.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. The Eligibility Specialist is supervised by the ULEB Communication Supervisor under the direction of the ULEB Medical Director, completes all duties related to the evaluation, processing, storage, and distribution of eye tissue. The Eligibility Specialist completes a formal training period prior to assuming these responsibilities.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
