Job Summary

Directs all development activities involved with the solicitation of donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies. This may include directing and coordinating efforts to solicit and secure gitfs of various amounts including gifts of significant value and/or developing, planning and coordinating the Annual Giving Program.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Communication, Public Relations, English, or a related field, or equivalency; five years experience in fund-raising, marketing, sales, business, public relations, annual, corporate or foundation giving which includes two years of budgeting and supervisory experience. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

Experience in grant or proposal writing, public speaking, a background working with print and/or electronic media, an understanding of university fund-raising practices and personnel management is preferred.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. Essential Functions

  1. Plans strategies and goals to increase fund-raising effectiveness including; corporate gift giving, capital campaigns, planned giving, annual giving, major gifts, grant acquisitions, special events and telemarketing.
  2. Sets and administers the departmental budget. May monitor the gift accounts including endowed and expendable funds to ensure that they are being managed in accordance with the donor's gift agreements.
  3. Recruits, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff and volunteer staff.
  4. Prepares and analyzes market research to aid in fund raising.
  5. Develops long term relationships with potential donors. Responsible for cultivating prospects as potential donors to the department or college.
  6. Ensures appropriate recognition of donors, may oversee annual donor newsletters and communications for special events.
  7. Organizes and directs various boards and committees within the college/department.
  8. Oversees fund-raising programs that may be televised. Provides volunteer training for fund-raising participants.
  9. Tracks the solicitation progress and ensures that proper records are kept of each solicitation to avoid duplication of efforts and possible embarrassment.

Problem Solving

This position has the authority to hire and fire staff, to approve expenditures of the department/colleges operating and personnel budget consistent with the approved long-range goals and plans. The incumbent makes direct contact with potential donors or foundations, maintains and updates potential and current donor relations within the procedures determined by the University President's office related to donor clearance.

The major challenges of this position are achieving annual fund-raising financial objectives in a competitive market; creating new revenue streams and supervision of a creative workforce.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
