Job Summary

Under limited supervision, paints interiors and exteriors of buildings and refinishes furniture, equipment and fixtures by using advanced journeyman skills.

Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Qualifications

Successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program in painting, plus one year professional painting experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communications skills are also required.

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Essential Functions

1. Applies paint to building interiors and exteriors, and other wood, metal, and plaster surfaces, by using brushes, spray guns, rollers, and related painting equipment.
2. Refinishes furniture and office equipment such as cabinets, counters, tables, and desks using stain, filler, sealer, varnish, shellac, and paint.
3. Washes, scrapes, sands, putties, seals, spackles, primes, and undercoats surfaces before painting or refinishing.
4. Blends, mixes, and matches paints and stains by adding pigments and/or thinners to obtain desired color and consistency.
5. Applies a variety of skills in erecting, rigging, and using scaffolding, ladders, trestles, planks, window jacks and stages.
6. Performs variety of tasks by decorating and stenciling interior rooms, installing and replacing window glass and mirrors, removing old finishes from woodwork and floors, hanging wallpaper and vinyl, and other related tasks.
7. This position requires limited supervision.

Comments

The journeyman license is obtained through the successful passing of a comprehensive examination after the completion of a 3 year 6,000+ hour accredited apprenticeship program.

The incumbent must be familiar with safety practices, and procedures due to the exposure to certain hazardous conditions and situations such as explosive and flammable paints, thinners, and work on tall ladders or high scaffolding.
