Job Summary

This position integrates medical assistant knowledge with computer science and information systems for health care providers using the electronic medical records.

Qualifications

CPOE credentialed by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program. Three years experience working with electronic health records.

Credentialed for Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) through AAMA.

Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association or obtain within one month of hire.

Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Essential Functions

1. Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination and assists with procedures, ensuring that the Electronic Medical Record is efficiently and accurately being used.

2. May assist patient and family education by providing educational material and general health information using the Electronic Medical Record.

3. Performs administrative clinic duties to ensure that health care providers are following the hospital policies and procedure.

4. Works in conjunction with coders to ensure that the health care providers are documenting and billing appropriately for laboratory procedures, EKG’s, casts, splints, injections, suture removal and various specialty skills.

5. Translates and communicates clinical needs to information technology staff and works to develop appropriate solutions.

6. Conducts quality assurance testing prior to solution deployment to ensure functionality is working as designed.

7. Provides support to outpatient clinicians during training, go live and after go live to ensure utilization of the solution is correct.

Problem Solving

Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills are essential to the position. Ability to lead discussions with both small and large groups of people. Demonstrated computer skills, phlebotomy, lab specimen handling and processing skills.

Comments

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
