Job Summary
Conducts teaching courses in the field of dentistry; specifically technical work in the fabrication and repair of fixed prostheses and removable prostheses, including dental implants. Prepares and delivers lectures while leading and moderating classroom discussions.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) is required. 5 years of experience, including teaching experience in a related field, preferably instructing dental students in a formal program accredited by CODA.
Preferred field of study includes Dental Laboratory Technology.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. Essential Functions
1. Provides direct education to dental students by providing instruction in the fabrication and repair of dental, partially edentulous, and edentulous prostheses and appliances.
2. Manages the daily operation of the lab, including the management of the logistics and administration of cases within the lab and those sent to an off-site laboratory.
3. Performs a full range of technical work and instruction in the fabrication and repair of dental prostheses, partially edentulous prostheses, and edentulous prostheses.
4. Instructing dental students regarding fabricating dental prostheses, (e.g., dentures, removable partial dentures, crowns, fixed partial dentures, etc.), special dental appliances, (e.g., pedodontic and orthodontic appliances, maxillary and mandibular splints, etc.), by utilizing various dental laboratory materials, equipment, and conforming to dentists' prescriptions.
5. Prepares, operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
6. Represents the University by publishing or presenting research and findings to peers in journals or at conventions and conferences. Prepares and delivers lectures, leading and facilitating classroom discussions, and administering and grading examinations.
7. May coordinate with the University in the development of intellectual property with dental laboratory innovations.

Advanced knowledge of advanced concepts, with the ability to apply to unique and complex situations and teach others. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Knowledge of basic teaching skills developed from previous teaching experiences is preferred, and a willingness to contribute to research and innovation.
Comments
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
