Job Summary
Under direct supervision, provides support to attorneys by researching legal precedent, investigating facts, or preparing legal documents. Conducts research to support a legal proceeding, or to initiate legal action. May be responsible for leading and supervising new and existing paralegals. Demonstrated ability to interact at a professional level with all forms of communication.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) plus five years of experience required. The ability to provide guidance and give direction to staff members in other departments and divisions and excellent human relations and written and verbal communication skills are also required. Certification as a paralegal may be preferred.
Supervisory experience is preferred.

Essential Functions
1. Resolves routine legal issues under the direction of an attorney.
2. Leads and directs the work of others.
3. Prepares legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, appeals, and contracts.
4. Prepares affidavits or other documents, maintains document file, and files pleadings with court clerk.
5. Gathers and analyzes research data, such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, and documents.
6. Investigates facts and law of cases to determine causes of action and to prepare cases.
7. May be responsible for financial duties, accounts receivable, budgeting, forecasting, and providing other administrative support as needed.
8. Directs and coordinates law office activity, including delivery of subpoenas.

Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills are essential to the position. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Advanced knowledge of advanced concepts, with the ability to apply to unique and complex situations and educate others.
