Job Title: Major Gifts Officer, Sr.

Job Summary

Responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift level prospective donors. Performs work of considerable difficulty in designing, planning and implementing a coordinated program of fundraising activities. Uses advanced skill to establish and effectively manage relationships with critical, high profile prospects.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area, or equivalency, and seven years of demonstrated successful fundraising experience or high-end repeat sales. Six figure fundraising experience may be required of the hiring department. Advanced skill to meet predetermined goals and objectives through effective program/project planning, organization, execution and evaluation. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Prior fundraising experience in higher education is preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Uses advanced skill to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects.
  2. Serves as a lead development professional, working with donors capable of making very significant contributions.
  3. Establishes and effectively manages relationships with critical, high profile prospects.  
  4. Designs, plans, and implements large-scale strategic fundraising campaigns.
  5. Expands donor base and creates effective engagement pipelines for new and existing major gift donors.
  6. Collaborates with senior administrators, deans and faculty, and coordinates with fund development and alumni relations staff.      
  7. Serves as a lead resource to selected colleges and departments on campus. Provides training and guidance on campaign planning and implementation.        
  8. Manages special events to involve and cultivate prospects.
  9. Ensures that predetermined fundraising goals are met.
  10. May be expected to solicit gifts ranging in value from six to seven figures.  
  11. May service complex fundraising market or regions.
  12. May supervise subordinate staff.

Comments

The Major Gifts Officer, Sr., is a highly experienced and successful fundraiser. Fundraising goals are significantly higher and broader. Typically solicits gifts ranging in value from six to seven figures.

Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking.
