Job Summary
The Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) implements and maintains a compliance program for the University of Utah Health Sciences. The CCO is responsible for managing institutional efforts to comply with governmental billing requirements applicable to clinical services as well as compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule. The CCO also facilitates institutional efforts to meet other compliance challenges by overseeing compliance risk assessments and coordinating or supporting institutional efforts to address identified challenges.
Qualifications
Minimum Education – Graduate degree in business, health care, accounting/finance, legal, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
Minimum Experience – Five (5) years working in a health care compliance-oriented position or equivalency.

Essential Functions
1. Implement and monitor a compliance program for the University of Utah Health Sciences.
2. Exercise independent judgment in evaluating potential compliance issues.
3. Develop policies and procedures designed to facilitate compliance efforts.
4. Lead compliance efforts with respect to legal developments and evolving agency guidance.
5. Develop and implement an education program designed to ensure employees receive appropriate training and instruction with respect to compliance issues.
6. Manage responses to government investigations and inquiries related to compliance issues.
7. Initiate and direct, in cooperation with appropriate University personnel, internal investigations of possible compliance issues.
8. Implement and oversee corrective action designed to address compliance issues.
9. Initiate and direct performance of audits designed to monitor compliance with governmental billing requirements.
10. Assist leadership in establishing methods to improve efficiency and quality while reducing vulnerability to fraud, waste, and abuse.
11. Report directly to senior leadership with regularity.
12. Maintain knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to the University of Utah Health Sciences.
