Installs, maintains and repairs physical transport and/or wide area network equipment. Designs, develops, implements, maintains, and enhances telecommunication networks, systems and equipment. Analyzes existing networks and equipment and identifies opportunities for improvement. Identifies, analyzes, and repairs product failures, orders and replaces parts as needed. Determines and recommends which products or services best fit the customers' needs.
UEN Specific Summary: Responsible for statewide provisioning and troubleshooting and repair of existing transport equipment for the Utah Education Network (UEN). A sound working knowledge of ROADM, DWDM, SONET, Cisco router/switch configuration and support is essential. Familiarity with large heterogeneous wide area networks and a demonstrated knowledge of networking circuits to include; gigabit Ethernet, metro Ethernet, OC-3, DS-3 and DS-1, plus experience with TCP/IP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and supporting network applications, is required.
Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Qualification may vary depending on department utilizing position.

Position requires statewide travel and evening and weekend work as necessary Must be able to lift/carry 40 lbs. Must be able to climb an eight foot ladder and use hand tools. Must be willing and able to ride in a helicopter, operate a snowmobile, operate a four wheeler and tow a 12’ work trailer with a work truck.
